The issues in the area of family relationships will be resolved with delay

The Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia respects the decision of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia regarding admissibility of the Family Code referendum and does not comment on it in particular. The difficulty of the decision is certainly also reflected in the (minimal) majority of judges by which the decision was adopted.

Unfortunately, the legal regulation of referendum-based deciding does not enable decisions on individual important issues, but only on the entire act, which means that a series of issues in the area of regulation of family relationships that were pointed out by the Ombudsman in its annual reports and confirmed by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia (e.g. advocacy of children), will be regulated with delay.
