Further inquiries regarding the allegedly unequal status of primary and secondary school pupils from the Pomurska region

The Human Rights Ombudsman, Dr Zdenka Čebašek-Travnik, today received an e-mail reply from the Minister of Education and Sport, Dr Igor Lukšič, regarding the Ombudsman’s inquiries about the allegedly unequal status of primary and secondary school pupils from the Pomurska region.

The Ombudsman took note of the contents; the reply, however, does not indicate whether the reasons for the poorer achievement of primary and secondary school pupils from the Pomurska region have been identified nor it is clear whether such analysis is envisaged by the Ministry. According to the Minister, the results of external knowledge examinations are not in any way related to violation of human rights.

The Ombudsman was not satisfied with the Minister’s reply and will request additional clarifications to the questions initially asked.
