Ombudsman condemns Hate Speech against Christians

Ljubljana, 1 February (STA/VČP) - A large graffiti was sprayed onto a wall of a retail store in Ljubljana on Friday calling for the killing of Christians. The graffiti has been strongly condemned by Human Rights Ombudsman dr. Zdenka Čebašek Travnik. The police launched an investigation.

The ombudsman labelled in her press release the graffiti "Christians - we slaughtered you in 1945 - we will slaughter you in 2013" as unacceptable and condemned all forms of hostility and intolerance.

She expects the police will find and sanction the author of what she stressed was a crime of inciting hatred, violence and intolerance, which is prohibited by the Slovenian Constitution, and show that such hostility is unacceptable.

Moreover, Čebašek Travnik stressed that the ombudsman'a office had been critical for several years of the legislation and persecution practice in this field, and had offered suggestions for more effective limiting of hate speech and intolerance.
