Mag. Kornelija Marzel was appointed the second deputy of Ombudsman dr. Zdenka Cebasek-Travnik in a 55:8 vote in parliament on Thursday. A deputy's term lasts six years.
The ombudsman had previously had only one deputy, Tone Dolcic, who was appointed in 2003 when Matjaz Hanzek was still the ombudsman.
Marzel, born in 1965, graduated at the Ljubljana's Faculty of Law, and has a master's degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences.
She is the head of the Slovenj Gradec administrative unit and lectures at the Ljubljana-based Upravna akademija administrative school. Marzel is also a juror at the Labour and Social Court in Maribor.
